The School is part of the Faculty of Science. The Equine Services Unit of the UVTHC provide a 24 hour hospital service, an equine ambulatory service and also serve the University as a clinical teaching facility for undergraduate veterinary students.
The unit is made up of a unit head, senior equine surgical and medical specialists, surgical and medical residents and equine medical and surgical interns.
All positions contribute to the clinical teaching of the undergraduate students.
The Equine Services Unit strives to provide a high standard of veterinary specialist and general veterinary services to the general public, including the thoroughbred and harness racing industry. The role of the Locum Veterinary Specialist in Equine Medicine is to assist the senior and junior staff within this unit, in all aspects of equine medicine.

During the breeding season the successful applicant would be responsible for reproductive work on thoroughbred farms as well as scanning of resident AI mares.
It is a growing practice of full time and seasonal veterinarians, a consultant surgeon, and 8 support personnel including a laboratory technician, qualified nurses and experienced administration staff.
Our clients are predominantly Thoroughbred stud farms, but we have a growing sport and companion horse caseload. Our facilities are equipped with a portable digital x-ray machine, video and fibreoptic endoscopy with access to dynamic endoscopy and gastroscopyportable ultrasound and shock wave.
